Assign competitors to lanes

Choose an event venue, assign competitors to its house lanes, and check empty positions.

An event draws its lanes from its selected venue. First, check how that venue’s lanes are allocated to houses. Then choose the venue on the event and review the competitor draw.

Choose a venue and check lane assignment

  1. Before assigning lanes to an event, look at its venue. The venue defines the numbered lanes and which house can use each one. Open Settings to find the venue setup.

  2. Open Venues and find the venue you plan to use. Check its lane summary for the number of lanes and any house allocations.

  3. Choose Edit beside the venue to see its numbered lanes. Check which lanes are reserved for each house. A lane with No house assigned can be used by any house.

  4. Open your carnival’s Events list and edit the event. Check the Venue field. If no venue is selected, the event has no venue lanes to assign to competitors.

  5. Choose the event’s Venue, then select Update & Edit Competitors. Houseplay enables lane assignment when the event moves to a venue and uses that venue’s lane setup.

  6. Check each numbered lane in the draw. A house-reserved lane stays empty when that house has no competitor for it. Check No lane for competitors who could not fit in their house’s available lanes.

A house-reserved lane stays empty when that event has no eligible student from the house; students in other houses do not take it. If a house has more entrants than its available lanes, No lane shows who still needs a race plan, even if another house’s lane is empty. Adding more venue lanes or changing house allocations can change assignments in uncompleted events. Completed events keep the lanes in which they were run. Check every heat or final separately, especially after new qualifiers appear.

Lane assignment also appears on the Event Results Form. Compare the saved list with the officials’ plan before printing.
