Choose how to add events
Choose between adding one event, bulk creation, a file import, or copying events from an earlier carnival.
Once you have created a carnival, you can add the races and activities in your school’s programme. You might need just one event, the same activity for several groups, or a set of events you used last year.
Houseplay has an option for each starting point. Check what is already in the carnival’s Events list, then use the comparison below to choose how to add what you need.
| Your starting point | Use |
|---|---|
| One event | Use Add Event to choose its type, group and scoring settings. |
| The same event type for several groups | Bulk Add Events. Creates one event for each selected division, gender and grade or age combination. |
| A CSV or Excel file containing events and student IDs | Import Events. Imports individual events and their entrants. |
| An earlier carnival | Copy Carnival Events. Reuses event setup; individual entrants and results do not carry over. |
If the events already exist and you only need to add entrants from a file, use Import competitors into events.
If the competition has heats and a final, use an event pool to keep those rounds connected.
Once your events are in place, check that their groups and scoring methods match your plan. You can then add competitors and arrange the programme.
