Create and edit event types
Create, edit and delete event types, choosing how competitors enter and how results are measured and ranked.
An event type describes an activity your school runs, such as a race or a jump. It provides the starting settings when you add that activity to a carnival, including who competes, how results are measured and which result ranks first.
An organisation admin can create an event type after its carnival type is in place. Choose the settings that suit your activity. The walkthrough shows an individual timed race and a later change to its usual venue.
Create an event type

Open Settings → Event Types. Review the existing list, then choose Add Event Type.

Enter the event type’s Name and choose its Carnival Type. Choose Competitor Type based on who enters: Individual for each student to compete separately, or Team for competitors who enter as a team.

Choose Measurement Type to match the result you will record: Position for finishing places, Time for elapsed time, Length for a distance or height, or Score for a numerical result. Use the time or length format that matches the units and precision you need.
Choose Measurement Direction to decide which result ranks ahead. Lowest First puts smaller results first, such as a faster time or first place. Highest First puts larger results first, such as a longer jump or a higher score.

Choose Default Venue if events of this type usually use the same venue. Choose No default venue if the venue varies between events. You can choose a different venue on each event later.

For activities with multiple attempts, open Show Advanced Options to set Number of Attempts and choose Best or Average as the Result Calculation Method. For a single attempt, these settings can stay empty. Choose Create Event Type when the settings suit your activity.
The measurement format labels show the units used to enter a result:

The example uses Time (S.ms) with Lowest First for a timed race. Your activity may need a different format or direction.
Edit an event type
- Choose Edit beside the event type you want to update. Change its name, carnival type, competitor type or default result settings as needed. You can also update Default Venue and the advanced attempt settings. Choose Save when you have finished.
Check the saved row to confirm the competitor, measurement and venue settings. An event can override these defaults, and you choose its scoring method on the event itself.
If you need to change an event already in a carnival, edit that event and check its settings afterwards.
Delete an event type
Deletion is permanent. An event type cannot be deleted while events use it.
- Open Settings → Event Types, choose Edit beside the unwanted event type, then Delete. Check the name in the confirmation before choosing Yes, delete. Choose Cancel if you want to keep it.
Check the list again to confirm the event type has gone.
